Kara's Kreations
A Little About Me
Hi, I'm Kara Hendriks, I was part of the Summer Company program. I am running Kara's Kreations. I build everything seen on this website.
I am currently a university student, so if you are interested in anything get in touch and we will figure out the current availability.
A couple common questions:
Where/ How did you learn to weld/ build/ create this flower/ butterfly/ladybug/ clover?
The simple answer my dad. My dad is mechanic his shop is right beside our house, so as long as I can remember I have spent time in the shop with dad, the hazard of this learning. Once I my brother and I were old enough to not need a babysitter, we were sent to the shop with dad. He taught us to fix things (tractors mostly), but also welding, painting and many other useful skills. The welding lesson came one day, I was maybe five, and dad handed me the stick welder pointed to a scrap piece of metal and said "It's a hot crayon, start drawing." I guess it just snowballed from there.
Why are you making this stuff?/ Where do you get inspiration?
This all started this spring when my mom, dad and I went to Canada Blooms, in Toronto. My mom spotted a metal flower, turned to me and said "You're going to make me one of those." I replied, "Sure" and snapped a picture, not thinking anything would actually come of it. Mom continued to pester me about building her one even after we got home. A couple of my friends had already applied for the summer company grant, and after hearing I was making my mom a flower, said that I too, should apply for the grant. Thanks Grace and Maisy.
The inspiration started at Canada Blooms, seeing all the lovely pieces there an d speaking with owners of those metal working businesses. The internet always a ocean of ideas. Family and friends and their constant stream of "Can you make a ______?" Especially my mom, with all her opinions on what she wants, and what I am going to make her, but I have to thank her for her knowledge on flowers, proportions, nature and any new idea I have to run by her.
